Eisenhower, the supreme allied commander, to the forces under his command during the beginning phases of Operation Neptune, the plan for the initial assault in Normandy as part of Operation Overlord. The Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen who took part in the operations were from countries all around the world including the United States, the British Commonwealth, the Netherlands and Poland.
