June declared LGBT Pride Month

Col. Matthew Brooks, 509th Bomb Wing vice commander, signs the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Pride Month proclamation June 1, 2015, at Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo. LGBT Pride Month is aimed to celebrate and recognize the importance of diversity within the Department of Defense. The “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” policy was repealed in December 2010 and the Defense of Marriage Act was ruled unconstitutional in June 2013 which provides service members and DoD personnel that are in the LGBT community the same marriage rights as heterosexual marriages. The goal across the DoD is for no one to be considered a second-class citizen, or denied basic rights. (U.S. Air Force photo by Senior Airman Joel Pfiester /Released)
