WHITEMAN AIR FORCE BASE, Mo. -- Team Whiteman officers provided mentorship and career field insight to 28 Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps cadets, during a base tour, March 3-4.
The AFROTC is a recruitment program aimed to develop Air Force leaders of tomorrow who will go on to fulfill the mission, represent its core values and live up to the rich AFROTC history. Team Whiteman supported the recruiting mission by hosting Indiana State University AFROTC Detachment 218. They visited with Team Whiteman’s commanders and company grade officers, discussing how they operationally led their teams, became pilots while maintaining strategic airpower anywhere around the world.
“We had a lot of fun on the tour,” said Capt. John Pedro III, the ISU Det. 218 commander. “Flight CGOs jam-packed our visit with a lot of good leadership information for our cadets to take back with them and implement when they direct their own teams.”
The visit was a first for many cadets. Seeing the B-2 Spirit Stealth Bomber up-close, aspiring pilots tested flight simulators and asked questions regarding best leadership practices. They also visited with other careers such as the 509th Security Forces Squadron military working dog section, the 509th Civil Engineer Squadron explosives ordnance disposal flight and the 509th Logistics Readiness Squadron supply flight.
“Overall it was a really good tour,” said Cadet Jacob Ball, the Det. 218 Mission Support Group commander from Noblesville, Indiana. “It was great to allow our younger cadets to see the different career fields they could work in when they graduate from AFROTC. Being a Senior AFROTC cadet whose slated for my first base, this trip gave me a lot of educational value I can take back with me and I feel like I’m ready to lead.”
