Traveling with TRICARE Prime Published Oct. 11, 2007 By Brenda Pindilli 509th Medical Group WHITEMAN AIR FORCE BASE, Mo. -- If you are a TRICARE Prime dependant enrolled at Whiteman and plan to be out of the local TRICARE area for longer than 30 days, then you may consider transferring your enrollment to the region where you will be staying and getting a new Primary Care Manager assigned. Many times, spouses and/or dependant children stay elsewhere when their sponsor deploys or is TDY. By transferring enrollment to a new local PCM, they are able to have local coverage for non-emergency (routine) care. To ensure medical coverage while you travel, do not change your enrollment until you arrive at your destination. Upon arrival, contact the Regional contractor for that area to complete a change of enrollment form. You can download the form from their web site. You may also go to a local TriCare Support Center. Your medical care will then be managed by your new PCM. Upon return to Whiteman, stop by the TRICARE office and port your enrollment back to Whiteman. Not all areas have TRICARE Prime coverage available. Some areas have the TRICARE Standard option only. To find out where Prime is available, contact the regional TRICARE contractor for that area. Their phone numbers and web sites are available at the 509th Medical Group TRICARE office or by calling 660-687-2118 / 660-687-4789.
