Whiteman AFB takes Lee Summitt family on Pilot for a Day tour
Eli Conley, Emil’s brother, Lee Summit, Missouri, attempts to stand up after putting on an explosive ordnance disposal blast suit during the Pilot for a Day tour, on July 19, 2019, at Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri. A blast suit can weigh 80 pounds or more and is made up of thick layers of Kevlar, foam and plastic. The Pilot for a Day program focuses on providing a child that is suffering with an illness the opportunity to tour Whiteman AFB and experience what it's like to be a B-2 Spirit Stealth Bomber pilot. Whiteman AFB collaborates with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to coordinate these tours. (U.S. Air Force photo by Senior Airman Thomas Barley)
