Catch and release
WHITEMAN AIR FORCE BASE, Mo. - Master Sgt. David Neuman, 509th Civil Engineering Squadron, puts 20 Grass Carp in a base housing lake March 27. Grass Carp are being introduced to enhance peoples fishing experience by helping to remove a lot of the “green muck” people see in the lakes and should be released if caught. They are sterile and will not reproduce. These fish eat approximately 3 times their weight in plant matter daily and within a year will weigh approximately 5-7 lbs. These fish are not harmed and if accidentally caught, they be released gently as their mouth/gill structure can not support their weight as in most fish.(U.S. Air Force photo/Airman 1st Class Stephen Linch)
