Ceremony honors Whiteman legacy

SEDALIA, Mo., - Four T-38s from Whiteman AFB perform a missing man flyover in honor of 2nd Lt. George A. Whiteman May 17 during the 20th Annual Whiteman Memorial Wreath Laying Ceremony in Sedalia's Memorial Park Cemetery. The ceremony honored 2nd Lt. George A. Whiteman, a Sedalia native and the first American air casualty of World War II. Lieutenant Whiteman's P-40 fighter, "Lucky Me," was shot down as he took off during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor Dec. 7, 1941. (U.S. Air Force/1st Lt. Matthew Miller)
