Artists in the making
As part of their curriculum, the child development center has begun a study of famous artists. This week they looked at the art work of Jackson Pollock, known for his experimentation in painting techniques and his abstract style. Lisa Kimmel, who teaches art at State Fair Community College, offered to help the children create a work of art using Pollock’s techniques. Lisa furnished a large canvas; children were given brushes and different colors of paint and created their own action spatter painting. We encourage all parents to share special talents with our children. Lisa plans to enter the painting in the children’s exhibit at the Missouri State Fair this summer and, according to child development center director Judy Van Boening, will be featured in the new child development center when it opens.
