Making a pitch for Special Olympics

WHITEMAN AIR FORCE BASE, Mo. -- Brig. Gen. Greg Biscone, 509th Bomb Wing commander, throws out the opening pitch to begin the Missouri Central Area Special Olympics softball tournament here July 20 and 21. More than 130 Special Olympians from surrounding areas participated in the tournament and more than 200 volunteers from Whiteman helped sponsor teams and participated in field maintenance, scorekeeping, umpiring and cheering for the athletes. This was the 17th year Whiteman has hosted the Special Olympics tournament. “I’ve enjoyed working the coordination between Whiteman and Special Olympics for the past four years,” said Tech. Sgt. Don Ware, 509th Services Squadron and Special Olympics volunteer. “It’s been a joy to see the looks on the athletes faces when they come to here and see the support that the squadrons provide for them.” (U.S. Air Force photo/Senior Airman Lauren Padden)
