509th MSG Combat Dining-In
WHITEMAN AIR FORCE BASE, Mo. — Capt. Chad Watchorn, 509th Mission Support Squadron, evades "enemy fire" during the 509th Mission Support Group Combat Dining In Aug 30. The Capt. was sent to the "Grog Bowl" for a violation of the rules of the mess. The Air Force Dining-In custom began in the 1930’s with Gen. Henry H. Arnold’s wing-dings. The close bonds enjoyed between the Air Corps officers and their British colleagues of the Royal Air Force during World War II added to the American involvement in the Dining-In custom. The Dining-In has a rich tradition, and this tradition lives today. (U.S. Air Force Photo/Tech Sgt. Samuel A. Park)
