Whiteman 509th Maintenance Squadron

An Airman with the 509th Maintenance Squadron sprays down the top of a B-47 Stratojet static display after sanding it in preparation for a paint job, Nov. 11. The B-47 never saw combat as a bomber, but was a mainstay of Strategic Air Command bomber strength during the 1950s and early 1960s. It remained in use as a bomber until 1965.
