Whiteman 509th Maintenance Squadron
A tattered aviation symbol is displayed on the side of an old B-47 Stratojet prior to being sanded down for a new paint job, Nov. 11. The B-47 arose from an informal 1943 requirement for a jet-powered reconnaissance bomber, drawn up by the U.S. Army Air Forces to prompt manufacturers to start research into jet bombers.
