Firefighters earn bragging rights
WHITEMAN AIR FORCE BASE, Mo. - - Staff Sgt. Derrick Allen and Senior Airman Timothy Vanden Haak give each other a high five after a brutal circuit workout Nov. 30. The Whiteman AFB team earned the silver medal this year at the world firefighter competition at Myrtle Beach, S.C. The challenge requires maximum effort in minimal time as it simulates the exertion needed to fight a fire and rescue a victim on a timed course. Vanden Haak placed 11th in the individual portion of the world challenge out of 485 competitors. Allen and Vanden Haak are fire protection specialist assigned to the 509th Civil Engineer Squadron, Fire Protection Flight. (U.S. Air Force photo/Senior Airman Laura Goodgame)
