Ryan Creel, a medically retired Army Staff Sgt., waits for his fellow Long Road Home Project riders as they near Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo., Sept. 4. Creel served as a combat photographer in the Army for 13 years before retiring. The Long Road Home Project consists of five prior service members riding 4,200 miles across the country in hopes of bringing awareness to the fact that hundreds of thousands of service people often face difficulty returning home.
