Volleyball: MDG-A sets an undefeated record Published March 23, 2011 By Airman 1st Class Montse Ramirez 509th Bomb Wing Public Affairs WHITEMAN AIR FORCE BASE, Mo. -- The 509th Medical Group volleyball team-A secured their undefeated record of 6-0 by winning two of the three sets versus the 509th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron volleyball team March 14. "I was very happy we won," said Eva Graney, MDG team captain. "We have a very skilled, competitive team and every player is essential for our offense." Set 1: MDG began by taking the lead on the scoreboard. With strategic attacks and rapid blocks, they continued to control the tempo of the game with a score of 16-12. AMXS seemed to have the motivation for a comeback though, and showed it by fiercely approaching and blocking a couple of attacks. AMXS failed the comeback ending the set with a dominated loss of 27-17. "I think having experienced volleyball players who are very team oriented has been the greatest factor in our wins this season," Graney said. Set 2: AMXS scored on the opening serve, starting out the set strong, but it didn't last long; MDG quickly regained control with a score of 15-13. AMXS didn't make it easy for MDG to win with a solid defense, blocking and returning hits. In the end, MDGs decoys and deep sets got the best of AMXS. "It was a great game against a great team," said Lori Taylor, AMXS team captain. "They played really well; I hope we keep getting better as the season progresses."
