Commissaries worldwide have been directed to remove from their shelves all packages of 8-ounce Gerber ORGANIC Rice and ORGANIC Oatmeal cereals due to a potential choking hazard.

Gerber announced the voluntary recall July 13 after it was found that the products may contain lumps of cereal which do not dissolve in water or milk. The company had received reports of choking, but there have been no reports of injury.

All codes of Gerber ORGANIC Rice and ORGANIC Oatmeal cereals in 8-ounce boxes are being recalled. The following UPC numbers can be found on the bottom right side of the box:

· Gerber ORGANIC Rice, UPC Code 15000 12504.

· Gerber ORGANIC Oatmeal, UPC Code 15000 12502.

Commissary patrons who have either of these products at home should stop using it and return the product to the store from which they purchased it for a full refund. Consumers can also call the Gerber Parents Resource Center 1-800-443-7237 or 1-231-928-3000 to return the product and receive a full refund.

About DeCA: The Defense Commissary Agency operates a worldwide chain of commissaries providing groceries to military personnel, retirees and their families in a safe and secure shopping environment. Authorized patrons purchase items at cost plus a 5-percent surcharge, which covers the costs of building new commissaries and modernizing existing ones.

Shoppers save an average of more than 30 percent on their purchases compared to commercial prices - savings worth about $3,000 annually for a family of four. A core military family support element, and a valued part of military pay and benefits, commissaries contribute to family readiness, enhance the quality of life for America's military and their families, and help recruit and retain the best and brightest men and women to serve their country.
