Master Sgt. Brock Belknap, 509th Bomb Wing program security managerĀ , and Tech. Sgt. Ben Au, 509th BW PSM, received the Whiteman Spirit Award from Col. John Robinson, 509th Bomb Wing vice commander, Aug. 6.

Gerry Harley, 509th BW PSM, nominated Sergeants Belknap and Au for the award.

Sergeants Belknap and Au were conducting a classified security briefing for the Air National Guard 131st Bomb Wing July 10. Shortly after the briefing began a 131st BW member complained of feeling slightly uncomfortable and asked for a drink of water. Sergeant Au temporarily suspended the briefing to provide escort for the member to the water fountain at the facility entrance.

While attempting to open the door Sergeant Au noticed the individual swaying and quickly moved toward him to catch him as he collapsed on the floor. Sergeant Belknap witnessed the events unfolding and quickly called 911 to request an ambulance. Sergeants Belknap and Au self-aid buddy care training immediately kicked in as vital signs were checked and medical help was requested. The member quickly regained consciousness, however he was sweating profusely and skin was cold to the touch.

Sergeant Au immediately started treatment for shock and kept the Airmen engaged in conversation until medics arrived. During this time Sergeant Belknap had called for an ambulance and provided escort from the entrance of the building through several secured doors to the area the emergency had occurred.

Sergeant Au's and Sergeant Belknap's excellent training and quick reactions to this medical emergency were critical in minimizing the Airman's injuries.
