Brig. Gen. Garrett Harencak, 509th Bomb Wing commander, presented Joe Scallorns, with the prestigious Air Force Scroll of Appreciation Jan. 17 during the B-2 Gala in Kansas City.

Mr. Scallorns is a Missouri native who was president and CEO of the Farmers and Traders Bank in California, Mo. until he retired in 1998. Formed in 1988, his one-bank holding company grew to about $60,000,000 in assets before it was sold in 1997.
The scroll, established in 1948, is an award presented to non-military personnel who have shown meritorious service to any Air Force activity.

General Harencak nominated Mr. Scallorns for the award for his exceptional service to the Air Force and Whiteman AFB. He has selflessly dedicated himself to supporting military institutions and has held numerous military advocacy, support and advisory roles throughout the community. Mr. Scallorns, a past president of the Whiteman Base Community Council now serves as an active member of the board. He also currently serves on the commander's group of Air Combat Command and is a participating member of the Air Force Civic Leaders Group and Air Force Association.
The award was presented to Mr. Scallorns by Gen. William Fraser, Vice Chief of Staff of the U.S. Air Force during the Gala.

"Our communities welcome our Airmen, they host our bases and they ensure we will fulfill our mission," General Fraser said. "They integrate Airmen into the community, they educate our children, they support our expeditionary deployments and they make the line between our bases and communities nearly indistinguishable."
"Mr. Joe Scallorns represents so many across our country who work tirelessly to achieve this vision," he said.

(To Mr. Scallorns) "At the community, state and national level, sir, you are indeed a giant," the general continued. "Not only a giant in this community, but across many communities.

Following receipt of his award, Mr. Scallorns spoke to the crowd.
"We have been blessed with a whole bunch of great Airmen and great leaders," Mr. Scallorns said.

"It is a great honor to accept this on behalf of all of those who support you," he continued. "You have honored me by letting serve with you. Thank you very much."
