Staff Sgt. Heather Lukesh, 509th Logistics Readiness Squadron received the Whiteman Spirit Award from Col. Robert Wheeler, 509th Bomb Wing commander, June 17.

Sandra Vance, 509th LRS, nominated Sergeant Lukesh for the award.

Sergeant Lukesh coordinated the 509 LRS fundraiser for the Show Me Christian Home in La Monte, Mo. The fundraiser consisted of both personal donations and "guessing" how many jelly beans or eggs were in a jar, raising $245 for a cash donation as well as money to create 30 Easter baskets for the children.

In addition to the donations, Sergeant Lukesh orchestrated a tour of the Show Me Christian Youth Home for 12 military and civilian personnel. She arranged for the visitors to meet the children and staff and have lunch with them.

"She is to be commended for her community spirit and leadership in representing the Air Force core value of 'Service before Self' and setting the example for others to follow," Ms. Vance said.
