Ninety-three Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps cadets arrived at Whiteman June 15.

On a Monday morning, they were bright-eyed and eagerly waiting to experience the next five days of presentations that will help them make life decisions regarding future careers, higher education and provide an opportunity to compete for the highest physical fitness score.

The JROTC students attending this year's AFJROTC Summer Leadership Camp program are from the local Missouri schools of Lee's Summit High, Lee's Summit West High, Lee's Summit North High, Blue Springs High and Blue Springs South High.
There were also students from Washington High School, Kansas City, and Derby High School located in Derby, Kan.

"I enjoyed the opportunity to make new friends and learn how to be a better leader," said Cadet Tech. Sgt. Timothy Nathan. "The most challenging experience I had this week was the physical fitness test. It was very exhausting to push myself harder than I usually do. I feel good knowing that I could push myself farther when it comes to PT."

"It is rewarding for me to watch the cadets grow and mature and come out of their shells during their formative years while participating in the JROTC program," said Maj. Dean Rasdall, Senior Aerospace Science Instructor at Lee Summit High. "This is the first year that I will have youth graduating who've participated in my program since their freshman year.
