Cyber Monday brings alternative to black friday madness Published Nov. 23, 2009 By Airman 1st Class Torey Griffith 509th Bomb Wing Public Affairs WHITEMAN AIR FORCE BASE, Mo. -- Black Friday has traditionally been a day-long battle for deals, with long lines, trampling deaths and fistfights to ring in the holiday season. While some may enjoy the barbaric gathering of gifts in this manner, others prefer to shop from the comfort of their keyboard. Thus, Cyber Monday was born. According to TheStreet.com, more that 80 percent of U.S. retailers have plans for Cyber Monday, ranging from advertising campaigns, to special online deals. The Web site also reports that many retailers expect to double their Web site traffic on Cyber Monday, the Monday following Black Friday. The online marketing extravaganza even has its own Web site, aptly named Cybermonday.com. E-shoppers can browse for that perfect gift from a myriad of retailers, from NFL.com to Victoria's Secret, without leaving the house or office. Vehicle-less dorm-dwellers and those unwilling to endure a day at the mall, can receive their purchases in three to five business days, with no traveling, or line-standing involved.
