Beginning April 1, 2010, all recurring base personnel must register their ID card with the Defense Biometrics Identification System, here.

All Whiteman Department of Defense active duty, dependants, reservist, guard, retired, DoD contractors, and civilians must register with DBIDS at the visitor's center no later than Oct. 1, 2010.

"The DBIDS system uses scanning technologies which verifies the barcode on the ID card," said Master Sgt. Craig Vorhees, 509th Security Forces NCO in charge of police services. "Military ID cards have changed several times throughout the years, so each time we have to re-engage our installation entry controllers to make sure they are aware of the changes."

According to Sergeant Vorhees, the implementation of DBIDS will help increase the security on the installation and help prevent fake IDs by reducing the human decision making factor.

"Whiteman ID card holders will not have to get a new ID card; we just need to load them into the DBIDS data base," Sergeant Vorhees said. "We have to verify that they have access to Whiteman."

According to Sergeant Vorhees, the process to register ID cards will take only a few minutes, but members will need to enter the visitor center.

"Security Forces will be able to load names and information into the DBIDS systems, and it will verify base privileges," said Staff Sgt. Kyle Larson, 509th Security Forces Squadron Police Services. "ID card holders will still have to give their IDs to the gate guard, and they will scan the barcode there. If granted access on-base, the hand-held DBIDS scanner will turn green and make an audible noise indicating authorization."

The visitor's center will begin DBIDS registration on April 1, 2010. The visitor's center is open 24 hours, 7 days a week. For more information about DBIDS contact the visitor's center (660) 687-2833 or Police Services (660) 687-4257.
