Housing wins excellence award Published Feb. 16, 2011 By Heidi Hunt 509th Bomb Wing Public Affairs WHITEMAN AIR FORCE BASE, Mo. -- The Whiteman Housing Management Office was selected as the Air Force winner of the Brigadier General Michael A. McAuliffe Housing Excellence Award Fiscal Year 2010. Members from this Air Force Global Strike Command housing office accepted the award during a ceremony Feb. 24, at Bolling Air Force Base, Washington, D.C. The award is presented to recognize excellence in providing housing support to military members and their families at installations with traditional housing operations or privatized housing operations according to Joe Joyner, 509th CES asset management chief. The annual award honors Brig. Gen. McAuliffe, former Tactical Air Command and Air Combat Command Civil Engineer from 1990-1994. "The McAuliffe Award is the highest honor an installation can receive in the Air Force housing community," said Lt. Col. Steve Moore, 509th CES commander. "Our housing professionals have been among the best in the Air Force for years ... I am happy they have received the recognition they so richly deserved. More importantly, the award symbolizes our commitment to providing quality housing for our Airmen and their families." The categories included were management, housing support services, housing facilities, housing privatization management, unaccompanied housing management and furnishings management operations. "Over the past year, we have made tremendous progress in completing a 380-unit, $135 million housing construction program," Colonel Moore said. "Additionally, major upgrades were made to another 52 homes, for a combined investment of $146.5 million in the Whiteman family housing community."
