RE Shop: Model for Fabrication

WHITEMAN AIR FORCE BASE, Mo. --  The 509th Maintenance Group Research and Engineer (RE) flight is tasked to provide engineer expertise for the 509th Bomb Wing, 131st Bomb Wing, the 442d Fighter Wing and 5 additional tenant units on Whiteman AFB. The RE shop prepares and evaluates modification and engineering change proposals, provides designs and 3-D models for fabrication, and supports in-house projects such as reviewing failure data, conducting studies and developing changes to improve reliability, maintainability and effectiveness. The RE shop benchmarked 3-D printing technology at Whiteman--allowing them to prototype and verify design ideas at a fraction of the cost.  Currently the RE shop is working on projects throughout Whiteman and for engineers at Tinker AFB, Okla. and various AFGSC working groups.
