Whiteman Spirit Award Published July 3, 2007 WHITEMAN AIR FORCE BASE, Mo. -- Capt. Jason Mayne, 509th Communication Squadron information systems flight commander, received the Whiteman Spirit Award from Brig. Gen. Greg Biscone, 509th Bomb Wing commander July 2. Retired Col. John Riffle, president of the Military Officers Association of America, nominated Captain Mayne for the award. "Captain Mayne is an outstanding member of the MOAA Chapter at Whiteman Air Force Base," the colonel said. "He has given superior performance and goes above and beyond with a positive attitude in accomplishing any assignment given to him." "He has demonstrated unsurpassed skills and willingness to increase the membership of the Spirit of Missouri MOAA chapter," the colonel added. "He organized the Spirit Family picnic, which had a large attendance for the MOAA Spirit Families, and he started a 'thank you' card program to the deployed members of the Chapter in Iraq and Afghanistan." Captain Mayne also showed outstanding organizational ability during the "Cookie Drive" for Airmen unable to spend the holidays with their families. He also participated in the "Sock hop" where socks, caps and gloves were assembled and shipped to Capt. Adam Minnich, 509th Logistics Readiness Squadron, in Afghanistan. All of the clothing was distributed to Afghan children. These are just two of the programs the captain has participated in with the Spirit of Missouri Chapter, the colonel said.
