WHITEMAN AIR FORCE BASE, Mo. -- Airman 1st Class Lisa Escobedo, 509th Communications Squadron, received the Whiteman Spirit Award from Col. John Robinson, 509th Bomb Wing vice commander, Nov. 5.
Lt. Col. Tony Monetti, 394th Training Squadron Squadron, nominated Airman Escobedo for the award.
"I had the pleasure of serving on the battle staff with Airman Escobedo during our Limited Nuclear Surety Inspection where she served as our communications support troop," Colonel Monetti said. "She was a last-minute fill-in for the normal battle staff coordinator, and ended up working 16 hours the first night with no complaints."
Airman Escobedo was proactive in performing her duties to include fixing various computer problems expeditiously, correcting network problems and coordinating with the battle staff director and senior staff information in a clear and concise manner, Colonel Monetti said.
"She also took it upon herself to update the sign-out board and standardize the name plates so we could account for the location of the senior staff," he said. "Airman Escobedo is an Airman who strives for perfection. When she observes a job that should be done, she starts on it without even asking who was responsible for it in the first place.
"Her professionalism is above reproach, and it is hard to believe that she has only been in the Air Force just under a year," he said. "She deserves this award for her diligence and commitment to the mission."
