The Air Force Assistance Fund campaign is underway at Whiteman Air Force Base.

Our campaign kicked off on March 26 and runs through May 22. The campaign raises money for four charities that directly support Air Force personnel and their families. The charities are: Air Force Aid Society , the General & Mrs Curtis E. LeMay Foundation, the Air Force Village Indigent Widows' Fund and the Air Force Enlisted Village Indigent Widows' Fund.

Our campaign goals this year are $52,826, 100% contact and 50% participation. When we meet the monetary and participation goals, we will receive $2,500 that the wing commander can use to benefit the Whiteman AFB community.

Many of you have heard about the AFAS. How it can help you financially when you need it?

Have you ever considered that AFAS helps even when you don't ask? Many of us have received benefits from AFAS but didn't even know it. Have you deployed? Have you and your spouse recently had a baby? Many community enhancement programs are provided without you asking. Bundles for Babies, Phone Home Program, Car Care, and Give Parents a Break, to name a few.

There are several more wonderful programs supporting you and your family. In 2007, Whiteman Airmen donated more than $39,000 toward the AFAS but received more than $177,000 in financial loans and grants.

Across the Air Force, the AFAS provided $8.4M in emergency assistance, $8.3M in education programs and $2.4M for Community Enhancement Programs.

In addition to the AFAS, there are three other charities that are very important to our Air Force Family. Here is a quick synopsis of the three charities.

The General and Mrs Curtis E. LeMay Foundation provides financial support to Air Force officer and enlisted widows who have little or no financial resources. Many of them live in their own home and community.

The Air Force Enlisted Village Indigent Widows' Fund and Air Force Village Indigent Widows Fund provide a retirement home for enlisted widows of the Air Force, Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve.

The Air Force Village Indigent Widows Fund provides widows of career retired Air Force officers with dignified, appropriate, and cost-effective living options.

Your unit point of contact can provide you with additional information regarding all of these charities. You can make donations by cash, check or payroll deduction. This is truly a program that benefits our Air Force Family.

Please help make this the best AFAF campaign Whiteman has ever had. Contact your unit POC for details on giving today.
