Daddy keeps coming in and out of the lower deck rooms. I peer into dady's neatly printed log. As I flip through the pages, I see a brightly colored red ink mark that looks trather similar to a skull with bones. Underneath seems to be the names of the misfortunate people who have perished. I gasp in horror when I skim down to see written in bold, red letters, 'Abigail Manning, six years old. Died December 15, 1620, when she fell off board and drowned.' I could go on forever naming the deceased but instead I close the blue bound book.

Mama tells me to get in the raft. So I go on across to the shore and soon find bushes with fruit. I pick some and then Mama calls for me to hurry back. The smooth grains of sand feel cool against my feet. As I run I step on seashells. Mama pulls me in the raft and soon I get back to the Mayflower. I lie on my cot and look up in the sky through the window. I think I see an Indian among the clods. My Mama says it is my imagination, but I say it is real. It is a girl with long black hair. Her lips seem to move but as quick as she arrives she is gone. Though Mama says it was my imagination, I say it is my new friend.

I'm sleepy, but I still want to write. Mama says that I'm the kind of girl who does what I am told. Well, goodnight. See you tomorrow.
