Hayley Harts' eyes woke miserably to the sound of her little sisters' crying and her little brothers running around. They ran into her room, screaming at her to get up. Hayley got up, walked over to them, and said, "Happy now? I'm up! Thanks. Thanks a whole lot for getting me up. Well, at least I won't have to but an alarm clock for $50.00. I have four perfect little angels right here at home. Not at the mall." Hayley looked at them and yawned. "Well, what do you want?" Hayley stared at Hunter. He gave her a poster board covered in stars, pictures of her in the past and colorful flowers. "Mama wants pictures." When Hunter told her this, Hayley smiled. Her brothers ran out of her room and she shut the door. She heard her brothers singing about how happy they were about going back to school. Obviously, they had the better life. At least they had great first days. They had friends, got to play in gym, and also have recess! She had none of those things, except back when she was a freshman. The whole year she was friends with Jacob Downers. Jacob broke the school's record for most hits and homeruns. So much for having a friend. Now they were seniors. Jacob was always going out with a cheerleader or someone sporty.

Rachel Hart was her new stepsister. She though that Rachel was so spoiled. She got her old room. Hayley got the attic. Why did Hayley's mom have to marry Rachel's dad last July? Hayley was interrupted by Rachel's voice. "Hayley? Could you please come down here?" Hayley got up and ran downstairs. She was wearing a blue stonewashed shirt and a tie-dye tank top. "Well where are you?" Hayley yelled. "The Kitchen!" Rachel yelled. Hayley ran to the kitchen and found Rachel making her a sandwich. Hayley didn't want to look at Rachel. Instead, she liked at her beaded flip-flops. "I'm sorry for taking your room. I'm sorry for reading your diary too," Rachel said. "Rachel, you read my diary?" Hayley said staring at Rachel. "Oh well. Just don't tell Hunter." The girls laughed. "Drive you to school?" Hayley asked, giggling. "I'd like that." Rachel replied. Me too. Hayley though. I would really like that. A new friend for life. She smiled at the idea of that. High school wouldn't be so tough after all.
