In a letter dated May 12, Michael Wynne, Secretary of the Air Force, and Gen. T. Michael Moseley, Air Force Chief of Staff, mandated that all military members who are not exempt from having a Government Travel Card will be required to use their GTC for all TDY and PCS related expenses.

Those individuals in need of a travel advance, who have a GTC will be required to take a cash advance against their card versus requesting a travel advance from the financial services office.

Though this has been the standard since 2004, the letter also makes mention of centrally billed accounts. These accounts will now only be used for members who are traveling without a GTC. You may be wondering how this is different from past GTC mandates. Now, when booking travel reservations members who have a GTC will be required to use their card and will not be able to rely on their expenses being charged to a centrally-billed-account or "charged to their orders."

This policy is effective immediately and will remain in effect until superseded by Air Force instruction.
