Military family members absentee votes Published May 28, 2008 By Jim Anderson 509th Services Squadron WHITEMAN AIR FORCE BASE, Mo. -- Did you know, family member(s) who are not in the military may also vote absentee? The Uniformed And Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act entitles eligible family members, U.S. citizens and 18 years of age of military personnel to vote absentee. Military family members and dependents are considered to be in the same 'category' of absentee voter as military members and generally should follow the same procedures. Some states allow children of military personnel residing overseas who are U.S. citizens but who have never resided in the U.S., to claim one of their U.S. citizen parent's legal state or territory of residence as their own. Check out the State by State Instructions at www.fvap.gov to see if your state allows this. Contact your unit voting assistance officer for more information or help registering to vote.
