Whiteman Spirit Award Published June 23, 2008 By the 509th Bomb Wing Public Affairs Office WHITEMAN AIR FORCE BASE, Mo. -- Airman 1st Class Calvin, 509th Munitions Squadron, received the Whiteman Spirit Award from Brig. Gen. Garrett Harencak, 509th Bomb Wing commander, June 16. Lt. Col. Brian Stanton, 509th Medical Operations Squadron, nominated Airman Calvin and his wife, Evelyn Taylor for the award. Airman 1st Class Calvin Taylor and his wife, Evelyn Taylor were driving by the stairs leading from the fitness center to the medical group and witnessed a man in obvious distress. "They stopped and questioned him," said Colonel Stanton. "They soon made the decision that he needed medical attention. He was having difficulty breathing and could not seem to catch his breath." Airman Taylor and his wife loaded him into there personal vehicle and brought him to the medical group where it was decided he was in cardiac arrest. "The quick thinking of Airman Calvin Taylor and his wife played a key role in saving this gentleman's life," said Colonel Stanton. "Although they did not know this man, they saw someone in need and came to his aid."
