Whiteman Spirit Award

Brig. Gen. Garrett Harencak, 509th Bomb Wing commander, presented Maj. Mary Teeter, 509th Maintenance Squadron commander, with the Whiteman Spirit Award June 20.

Retired Air Force Col. John Riffle nominated Major Teeter for the award.

"Major Teeter, is an outstanding member of the, Military Officers Association, America Spirit Chapter," said Colonel Riffle. " She has demonstrated unsurpassed skills, leadership and willingness to increase membership of the MOAA, America Spirit chapter. Major Teeter is an advocate for the life improvement of the America Spirit members. Mary serves as our chapter vice president and assists with the monthly meeting of the chapter."

Her community activities are very noteworthy, he continued. She was the ambassador of the military support representing the, Whiteman AFB, in the Knob Noster parade. The Mayor of, Knob Noster, highly commended her for her community support which included painting new parking spaces in the city and her support for the annual fair in, Knob Noster.

Additionally, she visited the, Missouri veteran's home, in, Warrensburg, and brought a 99-year old World War II veteran out of his shell while playing cards with other veterans, said Colonel Riffle. She also participated in the presentation of a donation check to the Veterans home from the MOAA.

"It is with great enthusiasm that I nominate and recommend, Maj. Mary R. Teeter, for a Spirit Award," he said.

If you could change one thing about Whiteman, what would it be? That I could have had more opportunities to get to know and thank the Airmen and their families, both those serving with me in the 509 MXS as well as in and around our community, for the great things they have taught me and the outstanding people they are.
