7-digit dialing comes to Whiteman Published Aug. 4, 2008 By 509th Communications Squadron WHITEMAN AIR FORCE BASE, Mo. -- Beginning Aug. 12, the base phone system will begin a conversion from the current five-digit dialing to seven-digit dialing--a change directed by the Defense Information Systems Agency that affects all Air Force bases. Instead of dialing 7-XXXX, Whiteman members will dial 687-XXXX for all on-base calls. The work is scheduled to take about five to six weeks to complete. All work will be done after normal business hours to minimize disruptions. Those who have speed-dial buttons programmed on their phone or have their phone call forwarded should re-enter the numbers with 687-XXXX. While the changeover is in progress, an automated system will prompt users to dial the full seven-digit number when calling someone who has already made the change.
