Exercise Polar Lightning
Airman 1st Class, Joshua Silva prepares to launch a B-2 Spirit from the 509th Bomb Wing, 13th Bomb Squadron Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo., March 13, during a Polar Lightning exercise originating at Andersen AFB, Guam. The Polar Lightning missions are flown to showcase the global reach and power of U.S. bomber force and at the same time the sorties give aircrews an incredible opportunity to hone their skills. Strategic bombers are part of the continuous rotating bomber presence deployed to Andersen. The bomber rotation is aimed at enhancing regional security, demonstrating U.S. commitment to the Pacific region. The Air Force will continue to rotate bombers and fighters on a regular basis to ensure regional stability. Airman Silva is deployed to Andersen and assigned to the 36th Expeditionary Maintenance Squadron.
