Members of the 509th Communication Squadron are scheduled to receive a new home in the fall of 2010.

A ceremony Aug. 25 marked the ground breaking of a new combined facility on Spirit Boulevard and 4th Street here. The new facility will be 17,140 square feet and house more than 150 communication squadron personnel. The cost of the project is $9.3 million.

"We are here to fly and fight in air, space, cyberspace and across the globe,"  said Brig. Gen. Robert Wheeler, 509th Bomb Wing commander. " This building will let us go to that next level of capability as we grow as an Air Force in this particular area."

The communication squadron members are currently spread out among several buildings through out the base; some are on Arnold Avenue in the current communication building, others are in the building next to the 509th Bomb Wing Headquarters building and still some, share a dwelling with the public affairs office in Building 59. The new structure will allow for the entire fleet to work in one building adding to its efficiency.
