Whiteman Athlete of the Year named Published Dec. 1, 2009 By Airman 1st Class Torey Griffith 509th Bomb Wing Public Affairs WHITEMAN AIR FORCE BASE, Mo. -- Lt. Col. Kristin Goodwin, 393rd Bomb Squadron Director of Operations, was recently named Whiteman Athlete of the Year. Colonel Goodwin, one of the few women to pilot America's premier stealth bomber, is also a tri-athlete. "Over the last year, I focused my training mainly on triathlons," said Colonel Goodwin. "They are comprised of three disciplines, swimming, biking and running." These three separate events each require their own specialized training. "You have to find a balance," she said. "Not only with the three disciplines, but work and life as well." Maintaining B-2 proficiency, training for triathlons and maintaining a personal life, keep Colonel Goodwin busy. "Time management is critical, but I think if you keep balance in your life and you're efficient at getting things done, you can accomplish a lot," she said. Colonel Goodwin believes everyone is capable of accomplishing great things. "We can do anything we can put our minds to," she said. "If that means passing a PT test, or competing in an Ironman challenge, you have to go beyond the limits of what's possible. Set a goal, believe in yourself, and reach out to other people to help you along that journey."
