One male and one female participant will earn bragging rights and fitness gear when the challenge winds down April 2. An initial weigh-in and Microfit assessment (a computer-based fitness assessment conducted by trained fitness center staff, of the individual's body composition, cardio, flexibility as well as strength,) assessment begins the journey to weight loss, as participants set a baseline for their results. Participants will then receive an orientation briefing, showcasing all the classes, machines, and resources available to help them reach their fitness goals. "This is a great way to encourage weight loss, as well as promote the many services the fitness center has to offer the base populace," said Staff Sgt. Henry Lopez, Fitness Program Director. "We welcome groups to participate for some friendly competition." Contestants will weigh-in each month to track their progress, and a final weigh-in and Microfit assessment on April 2 will determine the winner from each category. The last Body by Whiteman Challenge was a field of 68 participants who lost a combined total of 205 pounds. "Those who stick with the challenge can expect to live healthier, more productive lifestyles," said Sergeant Lopez. "Also, Air Force PT standards are changing, and we must be prepared to meet those standards." For more information on the Body by Whiteman Challenge or the Microfit program, call (660)-687-5496.
