Tax season is here again. Volunteer Income Tax Assistance is available to help taxpayers prepare their 2009 Federal and State tax returns.

For those Team Whiteman members who need their taxes done, the Whiteman Tax Office will be open for business beginning Jan. 19, 2010, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the Deployment Center, Building 705, Room 306.

Tax assistance will be available to all active duty members, their dependents, and retirees, free of charge with a valid military ID.

The Whiteman Tax Office consists of military and civilian volunteers who receive training from the IRS. Volunteers are only trained to assist with 1040EZ, 1040A, and basic 1040 forms. Volunteers are not trained to do the more complicated tax returns. Electronic filing will also be available starting Jan. 19, 2010.

VITA representatives will not only volunteer at the tax office each week, but can also help clients in their respective squadrons.

All forms in the tax office are electronic. If a certain form or instruction to the form is needed, they are available on the internet at www.irs.gov. If a person doesn't have access to the Internet, tax office members will be able to print the necessary forms.

To schedule an appointment, beginning Jan. 19, 2010, those interested should call (660) 687- 6739.
