Already more than 30 members strong, the Whiteman Enlisted Spouses Club is currently seeking new members.

As a charitable and social organization, the WESC is open to all spouses of enlisted active duty, reserve and retired personnel.

"We are really active into charity work," said Mary Wilson, WESC vice president. "We also provide a support system for our spouses of deployed and remote members."

According to their website, the WESC supports fellow spouses through friendship and generosity.

"The Whiteman Enlisted Spouses' Club is a place for spouses to connect with other spouses, forge new friendships, renew old friendships, and make Whiteman feel like home all while having fun," said Rachel Wheeler, WESC Honorary Advisor. "WESC gives spouses an outlet to make a difference, whether it's volunteering at the Thrift Shop or helping plan a social event. There are many ways for spouses to use their talents and skills and be involved in the base and have a direct impact on their community. The impact is felt in a wide range of areas when WESC raises money to support monetary donations to the Whiteman Angel Tree, the CDC, Whiteman Youth Programs, and award scholarships for dependants just to mention a few."

WESC is open to all Enlisted Spouses - and that includes Guard, Reserve, and Retired Enlisted Spouses, Mrs. Wheeler said.

The WESC holds their meetings on the third Tuesday of each month. Regularly, the WESC has volunteer opportunities at the Whiteman Thrift Store, working with the Officers' Spouses Club, and the Airman's Attic.

The WESC also supports several activities throughout the year, to include Back Snacks, a program in Knob Noster that supplies food to children who may not have meals when they are not in school, and a book drive that has donated more than 250 books to the Reese Education Center's library.

"Our charity comes mainly from Thrift Store," Mrs. Wilson said. "We made around $18,000 this past year working with the OSC. All was given back in the form of scholarships and donations to base and local events"

The WESC generates funds throughout the year with events like Relay for Life, Special Olympics, deployed and remote spouses activities, various committees and numerous base functions.

The WESC is hosting a ladies bowling night at the Stars and Stripes Bowling Alley Jan. 30, 2010 at 5 p.m. Send an e-mail to whitemanesc@gmail.com by Jan. 28, 2010 to RSVP.
