Tier 2? Who? What? Published March 10, 2010 By Staff Sgt. James Casselman and Tech. Sgt. Eva Graney 372nd Training Squadron WHITEMAN AIR FORCE BASE, Mo. -- Whiteman Tier 2, or just Tier 2, is an organization devoted to the concept of being the backbone of the enlisted corps. General membership is made up of all E-5s and E-6s stationed at Whiteman. You may not even know it, but most non-commissioned officers are already classified as inactive members. How can you be an active member? It's simple! Be active in the organization! We don't have dues, oaths, or initiations. Just come to our monthly meetings, which are every third Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at the Ozark Inn. At our meetings, we eat and talk in a casual setting. We plan activities and events that our active members want to be part of. Our mission is open to change as we adapt to whatever situation arises. Our organization provides needed services to the base and community, and performs fundraisers when voted upon by the active members. Our efforts aid other organizations on base such as the Airman's Council and the Sexual Assault Response Program. We donate funds to the Atomic Luau and the Chief's Scholarship Fund, and just last year we sponsored the Dorm's Decorate-a-Door Contest. At every promotion recognition ceremony, the Tier 2 is there reminding our newest staff sergeants of what we hold dear and providing a visual reminder to all in attendance. We could do so much more if we had your help! In 2010, we have many more events planned that are great opportunities for members to be active in. We would like to put together a softball tournament as a fundraiser in the local community. We are asking for interested parties to step up and help us make it happen. What's better than an event that emphasizes teamwork, fitness, and fun? The Atomic Luau is coming soon, the annual POW/MIA Remembrance Run, and Wings over Whiteman are all events that Tier 2 is involved in. We would like to go on float trips, and have family friendly events for spouses and kids to meet and play. We want to build camaraderie by putting together a softball, kickball, and volleyball team to play in the local community. Here's the deal: Tier 2 is only as active as you make it. To help us stay connected we have begun utilizing the SharePoint site devoted to Tier 2 off Whiteman's own SharePoint, https://whiteman.eim.acc.af.mil/teamwhiteman/Tier2/default.aspx. Go check it out! On it, we have a calendar of events for the year; we can post documents and announcements. The officers try to keep it up to date to what is going on! So who and what is the Whiteman Tier 2? If you look at your sleeve and see four or five stripes, you are! Why should you be active? This organization provides a unique opportunity to mix with other NCOs from around the base and do things that are FUN! We are always open to new ideas and activities! Why should you be an active member in this org?! This org is only as great as its members! Come have fun with other members of Team Whiteman's backbone, and actively make your career and this community a better place to live!
