The Whiteman Theater reopened Feb. 12, 2010, after being closed for a month while undergoing renovations.

The theater's interior renovation includes: new custom lighted display cabinet for candies, a change in the open floor plan layout, accent neon lighting and minor architectural construction changes. A new floor was installed to correct a trip hazard and to prevent further deterioration.

According to Mitch Hanson, 509th Civil Engineer Squadron, project manager, the demolition and installation of the concession area flooring was the driving force of the project. The final overall cost for the renovations was more than $44,000.

"Customers now benefit from being served, as opposed to the former self-serve standard," said Michele Van De Hey, Army & Air Force Exchange Service theater manager.

In addition to the improvements, the base theater offers customers inexpensive costs compared to off-base locations according to Tina Piper, AAFES Mainstreet Food Court manager.

"The developments to the theater provide base leisure and contribute to a better quality of life for Whiteman members," said Mrs. Van De Hey.

The base theater shows motion pictures Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m. with an occasional matinee at 3 p.m. on Saturday. During the summer, the base theater offers an additional movie on Sunday.

Motion pictures show approximately 30-days after they have been released according to Mrs. Van De Hey.

"We are excited about the renovations and invite Whiteman members to come and check out upgrades," Mrs. Van De Hey said.
