U.S. Air Force B-2 Spirit aircraft assigned to Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri, U.S. Air Force F-15 Eagle aircraft assigned to RAF Lakenheath, England, and U.K. Royal Air Force F-35 Lightning II aircraft assigned to RAF Marham, England, conducted training flights over international waters in the vicinity of the Norwegian Sea Sept. 16, 2019, as a clear and visible demonstration of U.S. commitment to regional security.

These missions have been closely coordinated with the government of Norway and those of other neighboring countries.

The B-2 aircraft, part of the Bomber Task Force currently deployed to the U.S. European Command area of responsibility, are from the 509th Bomb Wing, Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri. The aircraft arrived in theater on August 27, and are temporarily operating out of RAF Fairford, England. The deployment of stealth bombers to the U.K. helps exercise RAF Fairford as the U.S. Air Forces in Europe’s forward training location for bombers.

“Bomber Task Force missions represent our ability to project air power around the globe and provide an opportunity to train and integrate with our allies and partners in the region,” said Lt. Gen. Steven L. Basham, deputy commander, U.S. Air Forces in Europe and Air Forces Africa. “These missions are key to proving the combat capability of the aircraft, while also serving as an important symbol of assurance for our allies, and deterrence against potential adversaries.”
