The 509th Medical Group will undergo an accreditation survey July 9 - 13.

The clinic will be inspected by two agencies, a nine-member military Health Services Inspection team and a three-member civilian accreditation team from the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Inc., to determine if accreditation should be retained by the organization.

The AAAHC, a new accreditation agency for Air Force medical service clinics which provide outpatient services only, will evaluate the 509th MDG for the first time.

The medical staff has been busy ensuring they are ready for this important inspection, according to Col. Gloria Twilley, 509th MDG commander. One of the primary things the surveyors look for is how the entire staff works together to deliver health care to their beneficiaries.

To maintain accreditation, the surveyors ensure the medical group complies with standards to provide high-quality health care services directed at both patient and employee safety.

In addition to collecting data, the surveyors will also interview patients and staff members regarding customer satisfaction and patient care delivery. This survey can be compared in scope with the Joint Nuclear Surety Inspection the base underwent in November 2006.

Colonel Twilley said there will be no impact on patient care during the survey - services will maintain regular hours of operations.

Patients can expect to be asked questions from the inspectors concerning quality of service and care provided by MDG members.
