Whiteman Air Force Base participates in the Airman's Edge survey

Members of the 509th Bomb Wing have the opportunity to provide feedback on the effectiveness of a peer-to-peer program called Airman’s Edge.

The purpose of the study is to examine if peer-to-peer mentoring is effective in decreasing suicide risk and fostering improved psychological health and well-being within a military population.

“In order for this study to be successful the research team needs Airmen to take the survey, called a Reality Check, several times over the two-year period,” said Col. Jeffrey Schreiner, 509th BW commander. “Whether you have taken it already, or it is a new study to you, they need our participation.”

Whiteman was selected earlier this year to be the first base to participate in Airman’s Edge, and it is once again time for the wing to provide confidential and anonymous feedback.

The short survey will ask questions about participants’ mood, how they view themselves and others, and various other behaviors participants may engage in.

“The program shows promise and could become a model for the Air Force or even DOD in the future,” Schreiner said. “For that to happen the program requires meaningful data to validate outcomes.”
