Strategic deterrence is a daily occurrence

U.S. Air Force B-2 Spirit aircraft assigned to the 509th Bomb Wing, sits in the docks while crew is performing pre-flight checks during Global Thunder 17, at Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo., Oct. 27, 2016. Exercise Global Thunder is an annual command and control and field training exercise designed to train Department of Defense forces and assess joint operational readiness across all of USSTRATCOM’s mission areas, with a specific focus on nuclear readiness. The exercise provides training opportunities for USSTRATCOM components, task forces, units and command posts to deter and, if necessary, defeat a military attack against the United States and to employ forces as directed by the President.
