Whiteman DV Lounge dedicated to Maurine Achauer

WHITEMAN AIR FORCE BASE, Mo. -- Heavy winds didn't keep more than 100 Team Whiteman and community members from attending a ceremony here dedicating the newly renovated Distinguished Visitors' Lounge in honor of long-time advocate for Airmen, Marine Achauer, during a ceremony Nov. 4 outside the Base Operations building.

"Maurine truly is the ultimate host of Team Whiteman people," said Brig. Gen. Garrett Harencak, 509th Bomb Wing commander. "It's only fitting that we dedicate our DV Lounge, a place where Whiteman guests are welcomed, in honor of this phenomenal lady."

Ms. Achauer is a long-time member of the Whiteman Base Community Council and Warrensburg Military Affairs Committee, two organizations focused on the morale and welfare of Whiteman service members.

In attendance were also two former 509th Bomb wing commanders, Maj. Gen. Anthony Przybyslawski, Air Education and Training Commander vice commander, and Lt. Gen. (Ret) Ronald Marcotte, the first 509th BW commander. Both former 509th BW commanders worked with Ms. Achauer during their commands.

"One of the things we noticed when we got here that hadn't been revitalized in a while was our Distinguished visitors' lounge," General Harencak said. "We receive a lot of distinguished visitors here and we want to show that we are America's greatest Wing."

"The Maurine Achauer Distinguished Visitor's Lounge is first-class," the general said.

"This is truly something the 509th needs to memoralize Maurine," General Przybyslawski said. "During my years as a commander here, I will never forget the times at the table I was mentored by her.

"She gave me ideas that were really my ideas but she planted them," he added. "We can't thank you enough for what you have done for all of us, by just that simple thing of bringing us together.

"You have touched so many of us and influenced our lives, and this is just one small token of appreciation for all the things you have done for us," General Przybyslawski said.
