EEO manager starts tenure

WHITEMAN AFB, MO --
The Equal Employment Opportunity manager has a new face. Stephen Brown arrived here Sept. 5, after spending the last two years as a human resource specialist with the Army ROTC program at the University of Guam.

Though Mr. Brown is beginning his first assignment as an EEO manager, he is not new to the Air Force. He served 24 years, including several years where he had an active role as a first sergeant.

As manager, he provides counseling necessary to Whiteman servicemembers and employees as a means for resolving individual employment problems related to equal opportunity and reports information directly to the 509th Bomb Wing commander.

His facilitation ensures Team Whiteman will be free from any discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, physical or mental disability, or reprisal and retaliation.

He finds truth in what Maya Angelou said, "If you don't like something change it. If you can't change it, change your attitude. Don't complain."

As an EEO manager, Mr. Brown's message to the base populace would be, "Whatever situation you're in, you've always got the choice to do the right thing."

Mr. Brown has brought his wife, Jennifer, and their three children here: Jeanne, 9, Jennard, 8 and Curtis, 3.

He realizes his motivation is threefold. "My personal goal is to be an inspiration to others, a role model to my children and to make it to heaven when my time is up," he said.

Being assigned here also allows him to pursue his hobbies. He enjoys listening to music, fishing and officiating basketball during his free time.
