Open house marks completion of second phase of construction

WHITEMAN AIR FORCE BASE, Mo. --  An open house at 905 Gott Drive July 18-19 marked the completion of Phase B of family housing construction here and showcased the new housing development to base residents. 

The house was completely furnished by the Army & Air Force Exchange here to give visitors a visual idea of how a house could be set up.

This event marked the release of the second phase of new base housing, July 20, which included 23 housing units.

The $33.8 million housing project includes 176 total housing units to be released in six phases over the course of construction.

"The average cost of a three-bedroom house here is $190,000," said Ralph Wilson, housing inspector for the base housing office.

Each house will be a three or four-bedroom design with laminate wood flooring, a covered porch and patio, and a landscaped lawn with a white vinyl fenced in backyard.

All houses will be two stories high, with the exception of 11 handicapped-accessible, one-story units.

"The houses are under warranty for one year, so tenants won't be able to make any major alterations for at least that time frame," Mr. Wilson added.

Housing office representatives encourage tenants of the new housing units to call first before they make alterations to their unit.

"This is the best housing I have seen in the Air Force," said Ashley Pierce, wife of Staff Sgt. Johnathan Pierce, 509th Services Squadron.
