The 509th Sortie Support section of the Aircraft Maintenance Squadron provides a vital service that sustains the mission at Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri.

 

The Sortie Support section mission is to provide serviceable equipment and tools needed for maintainers to perform their job on the flight line.

 

Maintaining and supplying the equipment needed to execute the mission is not the only area of responsibility for the Sortie Support section.

 

Additionally, the Support section provides mobility logistics between all sections to ensure Support’s equipment matches the mission, track nuclear certified equipment which is vital to strategic deterrence, properly dispose of and process hazardous material to ensure safety and compliance for aircraft, as well as purchasing or fabricating equipment needed to adapt to new mission requirements.

 

The Sortie Support section is responsible for providing vehicle management for flight line maintenance. 

 

For instance, the Dragon 6 trailer. The trailer is an innovative creation to improve effectiveness by being modified to hold all necessary tools and kits needed on the flight line, providing a form of easy transport of tools and materials. 

 

The Sortie Support section contributes to providing a resilient, equipped, and trained Combat-Ready Force providing strategic deterrence.
